September 2013 meeting report
-Guest post from Nancy Mercer-
Hi Fellow Guild Members and Fiber Enthusiasts!
The first Guild meeting of this guild year went very well! We had a yarn sale and a show and tell. Also guild members reported on their experiences at Midwest Weavers Conference held in Emporia last June.
The new officers are Nancy Mercer as President, Susan DeWit as Vice President, Janet Hamous as Treasurer and either Mary Sue Foster or Susan DeWit taking notes and Nancy Mercer sending out emails.
The meeting structure will normally be 9:00 to 9:30 board member meeting (which really means anyone interested in helping out with the running of the guild and officers), 9:30 to 10:00 is social half hour (hopefully this means that people will be ready to listen during the actual meeting!) and the regular meeting and program starting at 10:00 and going until around noon.
The guild is soliciting artwork to make an official guild logo to represent the Wichita Handweavers, Spinners and Dyers Guild. This will be able to go on sweatshirts, polos, t-shirts, coffee mugs, etc. Please have all examples to Nancy Mercer by the December luncheon meeting this year and we will take a guild vote on what we want to represent us.
We no longer have a newsletter, but we do have a guild website. Please submit to Sharon Barnes any product reviews, guild member profiles, book reviews, favorite recipes, guild happenings and pictures to her for posting. It’s hard to put out news without some reporters!
I have sent out an email on our upcoming workshop on Rigid Heddle Weaving. I hope that you all can support this! We are also going to have a workshop tied to our January meeting with our own Paula Smith teaching us how to make felted slippers!
We plan to rent a City Arts loom and have members learn how to weave Krokbragd and be able to make a Furoshiki bag. Please email Nancy Squire for weaving days.
(If you need an email address, please submit a request on our Contact Us page.)
