November 2012

Wichita Weavers, Spinners & Dyers Guild Posted on November 3, 2012 by webadminNovember 3, 2012

Devora Colcord will be sharing her basket weaving skills, and will show us how to weave a variety of Christmas ornaments.  We will be able to complete an ornament in the meeting time to take home.

Location: McKnight Hall, room 118

Time: 10:00 a.m. – noon

Directions to McKnight Hall are as follows: exit off of Hillside onto Alumni Drive. The McKnight building will be on your right. Enter the north wing (around the curve of the street) through the brown double doors that face Hillside. Parking is available in the lot across the street from the McKnight Building.

Jacey Boggs spinning workshop

Wichita Weavers, Spinners & Dyers Guild Posted on November 16, 2011 by webadminMarch 27, 2012

Nancy writes: The Jacey Boggs workshop on November 12th & 13th was so much fun and I think we all learned a lot from Jacey!  She didn’t just teach us how to make the cool coiled and cabled yarns, she taught us a lot about spinning in general.

One of her main points was that almost everyone spins with too much tension.  Loosen the tension (and by that she means just barely having any tension on it) and you will gain control over the yarn you are spinning.  She gave us plenty of pointers over the two days with her.

We want to thank Diana and Janet who organized the workshop and Mary Booker for bringing in our lunch orders!  And of course we want to thank Jacey for the wonderful time of learning and fun.
