January 2016 – Fiber fusion
We will be trying out a fiber fusion technique using water soluble stabilizer and scraps of yarn and fabric this month. This method uses two layers of stabilizer as a trap for designing with yarn and small pieces of fabric. After it’s all trapped it is then machine sewn, using the thread as a netting mechanism for holding the design in place. Like magic once it hits the water the stabilizer disappears and a lovely lacy fabric appears.
The guild will provide the stabilizer, yarn, scraps, machines, and thread, but feel free to bring any yarns, fibers, fabrics you would like to use! Also, you can hand stitch and bead, which will give one more layer to the piece. Bring some good (not best) scissors and something to line the fusion fabric if you want to make something out of it before you go home.
If you prefer to bring another project to work on, please do so!
