2010 December Luncheon

Wichita Weavers, Spinners & Dyers Guild Posted on November 28, 2010 by webadminNovember 28, 2010

Come All Ye
to the Guild
Christmas Luncheon

Sat., December 4th. 2010, 12 noon to 2 ish at Mary Sue Foster’s.
(Please request directions via the ‘contact us’ page on this site.)

Bring a dish (salad, dessert, vegetable, rolls, etc…to serve 6 to 8 people). Meat dish, drinks to be provided.

Bring some yarn, weaving or knitting implements, books on fiber or fiber processes…something which you would like to donate to our fun auction we do with play money. This is so much fun and neater than a gift exchange! So look through your closets for a shuttle, or a fiber book (you bought a duplicate of), or some extra wool you know someone would love to spin, or a bolt of yarn you think someone would love. Remember this auction is all done with everyone receiving our play money to bid with.

Special Thanks to our co-hosts
Marnette Hatchett and Hippy McCloskey

The end of an era… Helen Canzoneri leaves us

Wichita Weavers, Spinners & Dyers Guild Posted on November 24, 2010 by webadminNovember 24, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our oldest and dearest members, Helen Canzoneri. She was 97 years old when she died on Friday. Her three sons and their wives had traveled to be with her and they had brought their instruments to play for her, a last time.

She was brilliant in every endeavor she chose to do. She had been a member of the guild for more than 40 years and has given numerous talks or lessons, participated or led many study groups or organized workshops on fiber and weaving processes.

She also traveled the world to learn about weaving in cultures, weaving exhibitions and many other fiber processes…which she always generously shared with us. She especially loved tapestry, spinning, bobbin lace and intricate knitting patterns. She had an impressive academic background, spoke Japanese and Italian, and had been a Japanese translator in Hawaii during WW2. She was also had an amazing collection of tapestries and fiber art, which was featured in an exhibit at Larksfield Center. We will all miss Helen very much.

Her family is planning a memorial to be held in late December or early January at Larksfield Care Center. We will share more information as it becomes available.
