Weaving at CityArts… or Not

Guild members were interviewed for a televised news story aired September 1st on KSN Channel 3 about the decision to end all fiber classes as of December 1, 2017.

KSN reporter Emily Younger spoke to City of Wichita and CityArts representative John D’Angelo, who said that a decision has not actually been made, in spite of his informing weaving and spinning instructor Nancy Squire that classes would end after the fall session.

Guild members and anyone else interested in the future of weaving and spinning classes in the Wichita area are invited to attend a meeting with D’Angelo on Tuesday, September 5th at 6:00 pm at CityArts.  Get directions here.  A reporter from the Wichita Eagle may also be in attendance.

Fiber Prep Tools

Have you wondered how to use some of those fiber prep tools you see around and online?  We’ll do brief demonstrations of a bunch of them, and plan for a short hands-on time.  (I hesitate to use the phrase ‘petting zoo’, because several of these tools can really bite!)  Bring some fiber if you’d like to try your hand at some of them!

There will also be a small loom hands-on activity for non-spinners (or anyone else who is interested).

Sharon Barnes and other guild members will be presenting the demonstrations.

Directions: Exit off of Hillside onto Alumni Drive. The McKnight building is the second building on your right. Park in the lot across the street, and enter the north wing through the brown double doors that face Hillside (shown in the center of the picture below). Look for a “Guild” sign on the doors!
